Yaşar Arslan, President of the Association of Natural Gas Distributors of Turkey, regarding the natural gas support to be provided with Black Sea gas within the scope of the Presidential Decree, said, "With the natural gas fee not being charged from residences, places of worship and cemevis for 1 month and 25 cubic metres of natural gas being offered to citizens free of charge in the next 11 months, the natural gas bill of an average of 2 thousand liras per household will be free of charge." Arslan told AA correspondent that the details of the natural gas support package announced by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Black
Sea Natural Gas Commissioning Ceremony on April 20 have become clear.
Stating that the preparations carried out under the coordination of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the Energy Market Regulatory Authority and natural gas distribution companies have reached the final stage, Arslan said that the practice of not charging natural gas fees from residences, places of worship and cemevis within the scope of the Presidential Decree will be valid for natural gas invoices corresponding to 1 month of retroactive consumption to be accrued between 24 April 2023 and 31 May 2023.
Arslan stated that the practice of making natural gas up to 25 cubic metres per month available to citizens free of charge for 11 months starting from June will be initiated, so that many subscribers will have almost no natural gas expenses in the summer months.
Pointing out that households will use approximately 50 to 60 cubic metres of natural gas free of charge in April and May within the scope of this support, considering their past consumption, Arslan said:
"By not charging natural gas fees from residences, places of worship and cemevis for 1 month and offering 25 cubic metres of natural gas free of charge to citizens in the following 11 months, the natural gas bill of an average of 2 thousand liras per household will be free of charge. Considering that the average annual natural gas expenditure of households is 6 thousand liras, approximately 35 per cent support will be provided to annual natural gas expenses within the scope of the Presidential Decree. We estimate that the total cost of both supports will be approximately 37 billion liras."
"Compared to other fuels, natural gas is at least 2 times cheaper"
Arslan stated that in 2022, households using natural gas for heating, cooking and hot water paid an invoice of approximately 6 thousand liras, but the invoice paid by households using domestic coal for heating, LPG for hot water and cooking exceeded 12 thousand liras, while the invoice paid by households using imported coal with high calorific value exceeded 18 thousand liras.
Emphasising that households that prefer natural gas can meet their heating, cooking and hot water needs at least 2 times cheaper than other fuels, Arslan said, "This ratio will become much higher with the support of the invoice."
